Kimono Art

Kimono Art — Oshie
Old and no-longer-worn kimonos are cut into designs, primarily using the Oshie technique. The fabric pieces are then padded with cotton and glued along the design outlines to create a three-dimensional effect.
This craft, also known as “Japanese patchwork”, is said to have existed since the Heian period (around 700-1100 AD).
The colour, pattern, and texture of a kimono must align with the theme of the artwork. Although this process can be demanding, the search for the perfect match brings joy to the creation.
The oldest kimonos used date back to the Taisho period (around 1912). Kimonos made from modern synthetic fibers are avoided in favour of those crafted from plant-dyed silk, which gives the colours and patterns a truly beautiful quality. This type of fabric also holds its shape well, is easy to work with, and results in a stunning finished piece.
Since they are old kimonos, any damage or stains on the fabric are either skillfully concealed or thoughtfully incorporated into the design. While this is a very delicate and meticulous craft, nié strives to create pieces that are also subtly humorous and heartwarming.
Kumihimo

Kumihimo Braiding
Kumihimo is a Japanese braiding craft in which dozens of silk bundles are interlaced to form a single braid, revealing a beautiful three-dimensional structure and a multitude of colourful patterns.
Additionally, the hand-braiding process firmly embeds the threads, creating a unique tension that makes the braid easy to tie and hard to loosen.

Flower Art

Flower Art
Flowers made from plain, undyed pure silk.
Colors are first mixed from dyes, the fabric is dyed, and each petal is then shaped and molded with a heated iron.
By creating colors and shapes not found in fresh flowers, each piece offers a unique way to preserve special memories.
